Oh darling
just dance,
Shed your tears to skies
upon stolen dreams
we weep
out of death life has replenished
us anew song.

My soul
emerged – east of the Nile river
deeper – in the Red sea
Nesting in the wilderness
Hatching in milk and honey
I fastened my shoes in Passover
Borrowed gold, exchanged my foreign speech,
not bruised, marked or curse
Yet-upright my soul stood proudly
My soul has a name in Canaan- that’s mighty sweet.

I’ve rinsed my pain through spiritual
notes no one can hear but me.
I forgive all my years
wandering round
in disbelief
And when beauty sings
her perfect line
agony releases her sting.

Too quick
for slowing
down
My,
My, My
blowing wet smoke
burying these shiftless chords
adding up the dead,
Forgive us
Our transgressions
are multiplying
Forgive us.
Smile girl but not too hard
Speak up but not too loud
Shuffle long ,shuffle long’
chile- now I see
You have no eyes like me
You have no hair like mine
Your human qualities so undefined
quit trying,shufflin-
on my neck
Hold still
Let me be…

while the wall close in
no waters to pour in my cup
not God or man can change
the hurting tongues
Open doors to me
lover dance so gently
like summer’s heat
like silver streams of mercy
like silver honey
like healing doors
for all of me…
Ode my spirit
strumming
chimer -ing straws of memories
I was called here
bumming rides on-wombs of mercy
Ode spirit – shivering greatness -in birth
Ham-bone and grinning
Junes’ Snow
Blueberry oak
Expanding in Milk and Honey
Ode spirit,
I’ve come…
I’ve come, home.
let her go
If I start to trust myself
If Joy is for Living-
laughter is my soul
then-delay the clock
and rest a little while.

I am Eva -former refugee, doctor and a writer. My parents were Holocaust survivors, I escaped communism. I wrote a novel, mixing family stories and fiction. A novel about Holocaust, communism, racism and emigration. What makes people leave, and what happens to the ones who do, and to the ones who stay. I believe these old stories are more important now than ever before.
